Ten services. This table tells you which one you need.
We run a lot of overlapping door services, which is useful once you know which page you want and confusing before that. Find what it is doing and go straight there.
| What it is doing | Which service | Why that one |
|---|---|---|
| The slab catches, drags or will not close | Door repair | The slab or its hinges have moved. Adjustment, not a new door. |
| The key turns hard, or the bolt will not throw | Door lock repair | Cylinder, latch or strike. Usually alignment rather than a broken lock. |
| The jamb is soft, split or pulling away | Door frame repair | The frame is the problem, and a new slab in a bad frame solves nothing. |
| The slab is warped through or rotted beyond repair | Door replacement | The one case where a new door is honestly the cheaper answer. |
| A patio door drags or will not lock | Sliding glass door repair | Rollers and track, almost always. The frame stays. |
| A storm or screen door bangs, sags or has torn mesh | Screen door repair | Closers, hinges, latches and mesh — its own assembly entirely. |
| A shower door drips, drags or will not seal | Shower door repair | Rollers, pivots, seals and hard-water damage. Interior glass work. |
| A window sticks, rattles or will not stay up | Window repair | Sash, balances, locks and seals. We repair windows and do not replace them. |
| Glass is cracked, broken or fogged | Window glass repair | The glass is a component. It is renewed in the frame you already have. |
| A commercial entrance will not latch at close of trade | Commercial door repair | Closers and pivots under several hundred cycles a day. |
The awkward bit
We sell replacement doors. Here is why you should still trust the repair advice.
Almost every repair company's pitch is "we do not sell replacements, so believe us." We cannot make that claim about doors, so here is the honest version instead.
Both are on the price list, so neither is the default
A company that only repairs has a reason to call every door repairable. A company that only sells doors has the opposite reason. We do both, which means the recommendation is decided by your door rather than by our invoicing.
We run five tests, and we run them in front of you
Is the slab straight. How far has the rot gone. Is the frame sound. Is the opening square. Is the hardware worth keeping. Those five decide it, and they are published on every door page so you can hold us to them.
Windows are repair only, deliberately
We do not fit replacement windows at all. If yours genuinely needs replacing we will tell you and send you elsewhere, and we will not quote it. The split is not an accident — windows are repairable far more often than doors are.
A slab swap beats a prehung unit most of the time
If your frame is sound, only the door itself needs changing. It is a fraction of the cost and it does not disturb your trim. Anyone quoting a full prehung unit without checking the frame first has skipped a step.
We will tell you when the building is the problem
Settlement, a racked opening, a failing threshold. None of that is work we profit from, and all of it will defeat a brand new door just as thoroughly as it defeated the old one.
If that still sounds like something a door salesman would say, ask us on site which of the five tests your door failed. A straight answer to that question is the whole of what we are offering.
Services
Ten services, one trade
Doors and windows are the whole business, residential and commercial. Anything else that needs doing goes on the same visit.
01
Door repair
Main service
Sticking, sagging, dragging and failing to latch. The slab is the part everyone blames and the part least likely to be at fault.
02
Window repair
Sash, balances, locks and seals. Repair only — we do not fit replacement windows.
03
Sliding glass door repair
Rollers, tracks, panel height and drainage on the largest opening in the house.
04
Window glass repair
Cracked panes, hail damage and fogged sealed units renewed in your existing frames.
05
Door lock repair
Deadbolts, latches, handles and strikes. Mostly geometry rather than mechanism. Not a locksmith service.
06
Door frame repair
Rotted jambs, split casing, racked openings and thresholds. A perfect door in a failed frame is still a failed opening.
07
Door replacement service
After the five tests
Slab swaps and prehung units, fitted by the company that would rather have repaired it.
08
Shower door repair
Rollers, pivots, seals and hard-water damage. Nebraska water is harder on these than use is.
09
Screen door repair
Closers, hinges, latches, mesh and the wind damage that accounts for most of it here.
10
Commercial door repair
Closers, pivots, locks and thresholds on entrances doing several hundred cycles a day.
Nebraska conditions
Four things this state does to an opening
Each one changes what the right repair actually is, and two of them are not weather at all.
Loess soil and sudden settlement
Much of eastern and central Nebraska sits on deep wind-blown loess. It is strong when dry and can collapse when thoroughly wetted, which makes settlement here less gradual than in clay country. A door or window that was fine last year and badly out this year is often the ground rather than the carpentry.
Humid summers, desert-dry winters
Nebraska runs from muggy July afternoons to indoor winter air dry enough to shrink a timber slab visibly. The same door binds in August and shows daylight in January. It is exactly why planing is the repair people regret here.
Wind, and blowing snow with it
Open plains and sustained wind mean exterior doors take repeated pressure, storm doors get torn off their closers, and ground blizzards drive fine snow horizontally into any gap. That packed snow melts and refreezes at the threshold, and it is what rots jamb bottoms.
Hard water on shower glass
Nebraska groundwater carries a high mineral load almost everywhere. On a shower enclosure that means scale that builds fast in the tracks and rollers, and etching that permanently clouds glass if it is left long enough. It is the one place in a house where water sits on glass daily.
Coverage
Across Nebraska
Omaha and the metro, Lincoln and the southeast, Grand Island and Kearney along the Platte, Norfolk and the northeast, and out to North Platte and Scottsbluff. We plan routes rather than pricing distance into the job.
Questions
What people ask before they call
You fit replacement doors. Why trust your repair advice?
Because we make money either way, so there is nothing in it for us. Ask on site which of the five tests your door failed — a straight answer to that is the whole offer.
Do you replace windows as well?
No. Windows are repair only for us, deliberately. If yours genuinely needs replacing we will say so and tell you who to call.
My door catches at the top corner.
Classic dropped slab. Hinge screws that have lost their grip in dry jamb timber are the usual cause, and it is a quick fix.
Should I plane the door down?
We would rather you did not. Nebraska timber shrinks hard in a dry winter and material removed in August cannot be put back.
Do you do rekeying or lockouts?
No. We repair and align locks; cutting keys and getting you back inside is a locksmith's job and we will say so.
The wind bent our storm door.
Very common here. Mild bending at the top corner can often be straightened, and a wind chain fitted afterwards prevents a repeat.
Our shower door drips onto the floor.
Usually the bottom sweep or the jamb seals have hardened. Both are inexpensive consumable parts.
Will you come out for one small job?
Yes. Mention anything else while we are there, because most of the cost is the visit rather than the repair.
